Ethel Davis Wilson was born in Port Elizabeth, South Africa. She was a Canadian novelist and short story writer. She received her teacher's certificate in 1907, and for thirteen years taught in Vancouver elementary schools. She wrote several novels including Hetty Dorval, Swamp Angel, and Love and salt water. She wrote other books including The Innocent Traveller, The Equations of Love, and Mrs. Golightly, and other stories. She was awarded the Canada Council Medal in 1961 and the Royal Society of Canada's Lorne Pierce Medal in 1964. The Ethel Wilson Fiction Prize is named in her honour.
