Francis Beverley Biddle was born in Paris, France. He was an American lawyer. He was Attorney General of the United States from 1941 to 1945. He earned an A.B. degree in 1909 and law degree in 1911 from Harvard University. He first worked as a private secretary to Supreme Court Justice Oliver Wendell Holmes, Jr. from 1911 to 1912. He spent the next 27 years practicing law in Philadelphia. He was director of Immigration and Naturalization Service at the U.S. Department of Justice in 1940.
