Dorothy Elizabeth Denning was born in Grand Rapids, Michigan. She is an American Computer Scientist. She received the B.A. and M.A. degrees in mathematics from the University of Michigan and the Ph.D. degree in computer science from Purdue University. She has published 120 articles and four books, her most recent being Information Warfare and Security. She is now a professor in the Department of Defense Analysis at the Naval Postgraduate School. She has received several awards. Among them are the Augusta Ada Lovelace Award, National Computer Systems Security Award, and the 2004 Harold F. Tipton Award "in recognition of her outstanding information security career".
