Jerrald King "Jerry" Goldsmith was born in Los Angeles, California, USA. He was an American composer who demonstrated his versatility and originality in more than 300 scores for movies and television programs, often experimenting with unusual techniques, such as having horn players remove the mouthpieces from their instruments, to create a specific effect. Notable among his film scores were those for Planet of the Apes, Chinatown, The Omen (won- Academy Award for Best Music Original Score in 1977), Total Recall, and L.A. Confidential. He was nominated for six Grammy Awards, five Primetime Emmy Awards, nine Golden Globe Awards, four British Academy Film Awards, and eighteen Academy Awards.
