Henry Beston was born in Boston, Massachusetts, USA. He was an American writer and naturalist. He earned his B.A. degree in 1909 and M.A. degree in 1911 from Harvard College. After leaving Harvard, he took up teaching at the University of Lyon. In the 1940s, he received honorary doctorates from Bowdoin College, Dartmouth College, and University of Maine. He was also made honorary editor of National Audubon Magazine. He wrote several books include: A Volunteer Poilu, Full Speed Ahead, The Outermost House(autobiography), Herbs and the Earth, Northern Farm, and White pine and blue water.
