Hildegard Frieda Albertine Knef was born in Ulm, Germany. She was a German actress, singer and author. She was billed in some English language films as Hildegard Neff or Hildegarde Neff. She studied acting, ballet and elocution at State Film School, Babelsberg, Berlin. Her role in several films, including Under the Bridges, Between Yesterday and Tomorrow, Die Sünderin(The Sinner), Decision Before Dawn, Diplomatic Courier, Night Without Sleep, The Man Between, Svengali, Subway in the Sky, Landru, Gibraltar, The Lost Continent, Everyone Dies Alone, Fedora, and Witchery. She wrote several books include: The Gift Horse(autobiography) and The Verdict.
