James Warren DeMint was born in Greenville, South Carolina, USA. He is an American Republican politician. He was a United States Senator from South Carolina from 2005 to 2013. He previously served as the United States Representative for South Carolina's 4th congressional district from 1999 to 2005. He served as the President of the Heritage Foundation from 2013-2017. He earned a bachelor's degree in Communications from the University of Tennessee in 1973. He earned an MBA degree from Clemson University in 1981. He joined his father-in-law’s advertising firm in Greenville in 1981, working in the field of market research. In 1983, he founded The DeMint Group, a research firm with businesses, schools, colleges, and hospitals as clients. He has written several books include: Why We Whisper (with J. David Woodard), Saving Freedom, The Great American Awakening, Now Or Never, and Falling in Love with America Again. He married to Debbie Henderson in 1973. They have four children.
