Allen Bernard West is an American political commentator, former member of the United States House of Representatives, and retired U.S. Army lieutenant colonel. A member of the Republican Party, he represented Florida's 22nd congressional district in the House from 2011 to 2013 and is currently a contributor for Fox News. West's first book, ''Guardian of the Republic,'' was published in April 2014 by Random House. West was born in Georgia and joined the United States Army in 1983. He was deployed to Kuwait in 1991 and Iraq in 2003. He received a master's degree in political science from Kansas State University. He also earned a master of military arts and sciences degree from the US Army Command and General Staff Officer College in political theory and military history and operations.
