Gerard Debreu was born in Calais, France. He was a French-American economist and mathematician. Best known as a professor of economics at the University of California, Berkeley(1962-1991). For his explanation of the mathematics underlying the equilibrium of supply and demand, he was awarded the Nobel Prize in Economics in 1983. He wrote several books include: Theory of Value: An Axiomatic Analysis of Economic Equilibrium and Mathematical Economics: Twenty Papers of Gerard Debreu.
