John Mathias Engler was born in Mount Pleasant, Michigan, USA. He is an American Republican politician, lawyer and businessman. He served as the 46th Governor of Michigan from 1991 to 2003. He served as Chair of the National Governors Association, a member of the Michigan Senate, and a member of the Michigan House of Representatives. He graduated with a degree in Agricultural Economics from Michigan State University in 1971. He earned a JD degree from Thomas M. Cooley Law School in 1981. He currently serves on the Board of Directors of Universal Forest Products Inc., as a director of Dow Jones and Delta Air Lines, and as a trustee of Munder Funds. In 2013, he joined the advisory board of Blackford Capital's Michigan Prosperity Fund as chairman.
