Jeanne Elizabeth Pearl Kohl-Welles was born in Madison, Wisconsin, USA. She is an American Democratic politician, lecturer and author. Since January 2016 she has represented District 4 on the Metropolitan King County Council. From 1994 to 2015 she represented the 36th Legislative District in the Washington State Senate. From 1992 to 1994 she served as Member of the Washington House of Representatives. She earned a BA degree and an MA degree in education from California State University, Northridge. She earned an MA degree in Sociology from the University of California, Los Angeles. She received her PhD in Sociology from the University of California, Los Angeles. She has written several books include: Intimate Relationships, Marriages and Families (with F. Philip Rice), Sociology, windows on society, Explorations in Social Research (with Jane Reisman), and Marriage and the Family Study Guide.
