Frederic William Farrar was born in Bombay, India. He was a British cleric, teacher, and writer. He was a member of the Cambridge Apostles secret society. He educated at King William's College, King's College London and Trinity College, Cambridge. At Cambridge he won the Chancellor's Gold Medal for poetry in 1852. He was master at Harrow School and headmaster of Marlborough College from 1871 to 1876. He wrote several books include: St. Winifred's, The life of Christ, Eric, or, Little by Little (novel), Seekers After God, The History of Interpretation, Mercy and judgment, Julian Home, and The Herods.
