Frantz Omar Fanon was born in Fort-de-France, Martinique. He was a Martinique-born Afro-Caribbean psychiatrist, philosopher, and author whose works are influential in the fields of post-colonial studies, critical theory, and Marxism. In the course of his work as a physician and psychiatrist, he supported the Algerian War of Independence from France, and was a member of the Algerian National Liberation Front. He wrote several books include: Black Skin, White Masks, A Dying Colonialism, The Wretched of the Earth, Concerning Violence, and Toward the African Revolution.
