She served as Assistant to the President and Special Advisor to the Secretary of the Treasury for the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau under President Barack Obama. She graduating in 1970 with a bachelor of science degree in speech pathology and audiology from University of Houston. She earning her law degree from Rutgers University. Warren and her daughter Amelia Tyagi wrote The Two-Income Trap: Why Middle-Class Mothers and Fathers Are Going Broke. Warren's book A Fighting Chance was published by Metropolitan Books in April 2014.
