Elliott Cook Carter, Jr. was born in Manhattan, USA. He was an American composer who was twice awarded the Pulitzer Prize. His compositions are known and performed throughout the world; they include orchestral, chamber music, solo instrumental, and vocal works. His first compositions, written upon his return to the United States, were a neoclassic ballet, Pocahontas, and Holiday Overture. He composed his only opera What Next? He completed his last work, Epigrams for piano trio, on August 13, 2012.
