Bülent Ecevit was born in Istanbul, Turkey. He was a Turkish politician, poet, writer and journalist who served as the Prime Minister of Turkey four times between the years 1974 and 2002. He was the leader of Republican People's Party between 1972 and 1980, after which he became the leader of the Democratic Left Party in 1989. He was a Member of the Parliament between 1960 and 1961 during the 26th, 27th and 28th governments. In 1966 he became the secretary general of the Republican People's Party.
