There was neither horizon, cloud, nor sound; of that pink, spread silence even I had become part, belonging as much to sky as to earth.
Emily Carr Quotes
Oh, Spring! I want to go out and feel you and get inspiration. My old things seem dead. I want fresh contacts, more vital searching.

Emily Carr was born in Victoria, British Columbia, Canada. She was a Canadian painter and writer heavily inspired by the Indigenous peoples of the Pacific Northwest Coast. She was one of the first artists to attempt to capture the spirit of Canada in a modern style. Previously, Canadian painting had been mostly portraits and representational landscapes. As she matured, the subject matter of her painting shifted from aboriginal themes to landscapes—forest scenes in particular. In addition to Klee Wyck, Carr wrote The Book of Small and published posthumously, Growing Pains, Pause, The Heart of a Peacock, and Hundreds and Thousands. The Canadian Encyclopedia describes her as a "Canadian icon". On 28 November 2013, one of Carr's paintings, The Crazy Stair, sold for $3.39 million at a Toronto art auction.
