Hans-Georg Gadamer was born in Marburg, Germany. He was a German philosopher of the continental tradition, best known for his 1960 magnum opus Truth and Method on hermeneutics. He grew up and studied classics and philosophy at the University of Breslau, but soon moved back to the University of Marburg. He earned his Ph.D. from the University of Marburg in 1922. He taught philosophy at the University of Kiel, the University of Marburg, the University of Leipzig, the University of Frankfurt, and the University of Heidelberg. He wrote several books include: Truth and Method, Philosophical Hermeneutics, Reason in the Age of Science, Plato's Dialectical Ethics, and The enigma of health.
