John Linwood Battelle was born in Pasadena, California, USA. He is an American businessman, author and journalist. He was a co-founding editor of Wired magazine and its entrepreneurial arm, Wired Ventures. In 2005, he founded the online advertising network Federated Media Publishing. He is the Executive Chairman of sovrn Holdings, Executive Chairman of NewCo. Board Director at Acxiom and Board Director at Chute. He earned a BA degree in Anthropology in 1987, and an MA degree in Journalism in 1992 both from the University of California at Berkeley. He was a visiting professor of journalism from 2001-2004 at the University of California, Berkeley Graduate School of Journalism. He is the author of book, entitled The Search: How Google and Its Rivals Rewrote the Rules of Business and Transformed Our Culture (finalist for the Financial Times and Goldman Sachs Business Book of the Year Award).
