John Simmons Barth was born in Cambridge, Maryland, USA. He is an American novelist, short story writer and professor. He earned a BA degree in Journalism in 1951, and an MA degree in 1952 both from Johns Hopkins University. He was a professor at The Pennsylvania State University from 1953 to 1965, at the University at Buffalo, The State University of New York from 1965 to 1973, and at Johns Hopkins University from 1973–95. He has written several novels include: The Floating Opera, The End of the Road, The Sot-Weed Factor, Giles Goat-Boy, Chimera (Won- National Book Award for Fiction), Letters, Sabbatical: A Romance, The Tidewater Tales, The Last Voyage of Somebody the Sailor, Once Upon a Time, Coming Soon!!!, and Every Third Thought. He has written several short stories include: Lost in the Funhouse (Nominations: National Book Award for Fiction), On with the Story, and The Book of Ten Nights and a Night.
