John Brendan Keane was born in Listowel, County Kerry, Ireland. He was an Irish playwright and novelist. He studied at St Michael's College, Listowel. He wrote several plays include: Sive, The Highest House on the Mountain, The Man from Clare, Big Maggie, Hut 42, Moll, The Buds of Ballybunion, The Field, The Year of the Hiker, Sharon's Grave, and Many Young Men of Twenty. He wrote several novels include: Man of the Triple Name, Owl Sandwiches, Durango, The Contractors, A High Meadow, and Letters of a Love-hungry Farmer and Other Irish Stories. He received Irish PEN Award in 1999.
