Hideo Nomo was born in Osaka, Japan. He is a retired Japanese baseball pitcher in Nippon Professional Baseball and Major League Baseball. He pitched over the span of 13 seasons in the American major leagues with 8 different teams, before retiring in 2008. He won the Rookie of the Year Award in 1995. He won the 1996 ESPY Award for Breakthrough Athlete. He was elected to the Japanese Baseball Hall of Fame in 2014.
