Jimmy Cannon was born in New York City, New York, USA. He was an American sports journalist inducted into the International Boxing Hall of Fame for his coverage of the sport. He worked for many news papers, including the New York Daily News, the New York Post, and New York Journal-American. He was a war correspondent for Stars and Stripes during World War II. He also wrote a column for Newsday during the 1950s. He received many awards, including Boxing Writers Association of America A.J. Liebling Award and Associated Press Red Smith Award.
