Francis William Newman was born in London, UK. He was an English scholar and miscellaneous writer. He educated at University of Oxford, where he had a distinguished career, obtaining a double first class in 1826. He was a professor at Manchester, New College in 1840, and from 1846 to 1869 professor of Latin at University College in London. He wrote several books include: Anglo-Saxon abolition of Negro slavery, Hebrew Theism, Comments on the text of Æschylus, The Iliad of Homer, Handbook of Modern Arabic Consisting of a Practical Grammar, Phases of Faith, and Lectures On Political Economy.
