Edwin Harold Newman was born in New York City. He was an American news presenter, journalist, and author. He worked in radio for CBS News. He is known for a 23-year career in television news with the National Broadcasting Company, from 1961 to 1984. He earned a bachelor's degree in political science in 1940. Between 1949 and 1952 Newman worked as a freelancer, primarily for NBC News. He wrote for a number of publications and, in 1951, worked for the Marshall Plan in Greece.
