John Morley, 1st Viscount Morley of Blackburn was born in Blackburn, Lancashire, England. He was a British Liberal politician and newspaper editor. He was the editor of the Fortnightly Review from 1867 to 1882 and of the Pall Mall Gazette from 1880 to 1883 before going into politics. As a long-time member of Parliament, he was chief secretary for Ireland and secretary of state for India. He wrote several books include: Edmund Burke, Voltaire, The Life of Richard Cobden, Ralph Waldo Emerson, Oliver Cromwell, and Recollections.
