James Bremond Evans was born in Longview, Texas, USA. He is a former umpire in Major League Baseball who worked in the American League from 1971 to 1999, and ran a professional umpiring school from 1990 through 2012. He attended Kilgore College on scholarship before attending the University of Texas at Austin. Evans umpired in four World Series, and in seven American League Championship Series. He has written several books include: Professional Baseball Rules Index, and Official Baseball Rules Annotated.
