David Packard was born in Pueblo, Colorado. He was an American businessman and politician. He was a co-founder, with William Hewlett, of Hewlett-Packard, serving as president, CEO, and Chairman of the Board. He served as U.S. Deputy Secretary of Defense from 1969–1971 during the Nixon administration. He earned his B.A. from Stanford University in 1934. He earned a master's degree in Electrical Engineering in 1938. He was the recipient of the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 1988.
