Jef I. Richards is an American professor. He earned a JD degree from Indiana University in 1981. He received his PhD from the University of Wisconsin in 1988. He is a Professor and Chair of the Department of Advertising and Public Relations at Michigan State University. He was a Professor of Advertising at The University of Texas at Austin from 1988-2010. He served as president of the American Academy of Advertising. His research includes advertising regulatory issues, and he has published more than 80 articles, books, and book chapters. He also associate editor of the International Journal of Internet Marketing and Advertising.
