Elizabeth Cady Stanton was born in Johnstown, New York. She was an American writer, suffragist, social activist, abolitionist, and leading figure of the early women's rights movement. Her Declaration of Sentiments, presented at the Seneca Falls Convention held in 1848 in Seneca Falls, New York, is often credited with initiating the first organized women's rights and women's suffrage movements in the United States. She fought for equal rights for women. She wanted women to have the same rights as men. She was president of the National Woman Suffrage Association from 1892 until 1900. She graduated from the Emma Willard's Troy Female Seminary in 1832. She wrote books including: History of Woman Suffrage, Solitude of Self, and The Woman's Bible.
