James Hillman was born in Atlantic City, New Jersey, USA. He was an American psychologist. He founded a movement toward archetypal psychology and retired into private practice, writing and traveling to lecture, until his death at his home in Connecticut. He studied at the Edmund A. Walsh School of Foreign Service and the University of Paris. He graduating with a degree in mental and moral science from Trinity College, Dublin in 1950. In 1959, he received his PhD from the University of Zurich, as well as his analyst's diploma from the C.G. Jung Institute and was then appointed as Director of Studies at the institute, a position he held until 1969. He wrote several books include: The myth of analysis, Re-Visioning Psychology(nominated for the Pulitzer Prize), Kinds of power, The soul's code, A blue fire, The force of character, A Terrible Love of War, andĀ Alchemical Psychology.
