Ellsworth Huntington was born in Galesburg, Illinois, USA. He was a professor of geography at Yale University during the early 20th century, known for his studies on climatic determinism, economic growth and economic geography. He served as President of the Ecological Society of America in 1917, the Association of American Geographers in 1923. He was one of the early twentieth century’s most prolific science writers. He wrote of his Asian experiences in Explorations in Turkestan and The Pulse of Asia. Leader of the Yale expedition to Palestine and Asia, he published Palestine and Its Transformation in 1911. These researches produced several works, including Civilization and Climate, The Human Habitat, and Mainsprings of Civilization. He graduated from Beliot College in 1897. He then studied at Harvard University in Massachisetts for two years.
