Ellen Karolina Sofia Key was born in Småland, Sweden. She was a Swedish difference feminist writer on many subjects in the fields of family life, ethics and education and was an important figure in the Modern Breakthrough movement. She is best known for her book on education, Barnets århundrade, which was translated in English in 1909 as The Century of the Child. This book and numerous other publications concerning the issues of marriage, motherhood, and family life were translated into many languages. She wrote several books including: The Education of the Child, The Morality of Woman, The Woman Movement, and Love and Marriage.
