Jeffrey David Sachs was born in Detroit, Michigan, USA. He is an American economist and director of the Earth Institute at Columbia University. He is known as one of the world's leading experts on economic development and the fight against poverty. He earned a BA degree from Harvard University in 1976. He received his MA degree in Economics in 1978 and PhD in economics in 1980 from Harvard University. He served as a professor at Harvard University from 1980-2002. He serves as a professor of Economics at Columbia University since 2002. He has written several books include: Global Linkages (with Warwick McKibbin), Macroeconomics in the Global Economy (with Felipe Larraín Bascuñán), Poland's jump to the market economy, The End of Poverty, Common Wealth: Economics for a Crowded Planet, The Price of Civilization, To Move the World, and The Age of Sustainable Development. He received many awards, including Sargent Shriver Award for Equal Justice in 2005, Padma Bhushan (Government Of India) in 2007, and Blue Planet Prize in 2015. He married to Sonia Ehrlich, a pediatrician. They have three children: Lisa, Adam, and Hannah.
