Gertrude Jekyll was born in Mayfair, London, England. She was a British garden designer, artist, and writer. She created over 400 gardens in the United Kingdom, Europe, and the United States. She wrote over 1,000 articles for magazines such as Country Life and William Robinson's The Garden. She wrote several books include: Wood And Garden, Roses for English gardens, Colour in the Flower Garden, Children and gardens, Old West Surrey, Arts and Crafts Gardens, and The Beauties of a Cottage Garden. She was awarded the Victoria Medal of Honour of the Royal Horticultural Society in 1897.
