Elizabeth Bowen was born in Dublin, Ireland. She was an Irish novelist and short story writer. She published her first book, collection of short stories entitled Encounters. She wrote many novels including: The Last September, To the North, The House in Paris, The Death of the Heart, and The Heat of the Day. Her final novel, Eva Trout, or Changing Scenes, won the James Tait Black Memorial Prize in 1969 and was shortlisted for the Man Booker Prize in 1970.
