George Whitefield was born in Gloucester, England. He was an English preacher who helped spread the Great Awakening in Britain and, especially, in the American colonies. He educated at Pembroke College, Oxford University. In 1740, he traveled to America, where he preached a series of revivals that came to be known as the "Great Awakening". He was probably the most famous religious figure of the 18th century. He exercised influence over thousands in Great Britain and America by his oratory. He wrote several books include: Sermons of George Whitefield, George Whitefield's Journals, The Method of Grace, The Lord Our Righteousness, A Sermon on Regeneration, and Amity in the Middle East.
