George Washington Carver was born in Diamond, Missouri, USA. He was an American botanist, agricultural Chemist, and inventor. He earned a B.A. degree in 1894 and an M.A. degree in 1896 from Iowa State University. He is most famous for his research into and promotion of crops that could be alternatives to growing cotton. The alternative crop that gained the most exposure due to his research was the peanut. In fact, he was responsible for creating over 100 different products made from peanuts and shared various recipes for peanut-related food items. He was also a leader in promoting environmentalism. He served as a director of Agricultural Research, Tuskegee Institute from 1896-1943. He received numerous honors for his work, including the Spingarn Medal of the NAACP.
