James William Fulbright was born in Sumner, Missouri, USA. He was an American politician, lawyer and lecturer. He was a United States Senator representing Arkansas from January 1945 until his resignation in December 1974. He is the longest serving chairman in the history of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee. He earned a AB degree in history from the University of Arkansas in 1925. He studied at Oxford University, where he was a Rhodes Scholar at Pembroke College, graduating in 1928. He earned an MA degree from Oxford University in 1931. He received his law degree from The George Washington University Law School in 1934. He was a lecturer in law at the University of Arkansas from 1936 until 1939. He was elected to the United States House of Representatives from Arkansas's 3rd district(1943-1945). InĀ 1993, President Bill Clinton presented the Presidential Medal of Freedom to Fulbright. He wrote several books include: Prospects for the West, The arrogance of power, The price of empire, The Pentagon propaganda machine, and The crippled giant.
