Christopher Peter Meloni was born in Washington, D.C., USA. He is an American actor. He studied acting at the University of Colorado at Boulder and graduated with a degree in history in 1983. His first noticeable role was as the hotheaded son of a Mafia Don in the 1996 thriller Bound. He is best known for his television roles as NYPD Detective Elliot Stabler on the NBC police drama Law & Order: Special Victims Unit, and as inmate Chris Keller on the HBO prison drama Oz. His most well known films are Man of Steel, Wet Hot American Summer, 12 Monkeys, Runaway Bride and 42.
