Francis Quarles was born in Romford, United Kingdom. He was an English poet most famous for his Emblem book aptly entitled Emblems. He studied at Christ's College, Cambridge, in 1608. He wrote several books include: Emblems, divine and moral, Uniform with the Enchiridion, Judgment and mercy for afflicted souls, Emblemes, Argalus and Parthenia.
