Edmund Waller was born in Coleshill, Buckinghamshire, England. He was an English poet and politician who sat in the House of Commons at various times between 1624 and 1679. He was educated at Eton and King's College, Cambridge. He entered Parliament early and was at first an active member of the opposition. Several of Waller’s poems, including “Go, lovely Rose!”—one of the most famous lyric poems in English literature—had circulated for some 20 years before the appearance of his Poems in 1645.
