Herman Edward Daly is an American ecological and Georgist economist and professor at the School of Public Policy of University of Maryland, College Park. He served as a Alumni Professor of Economics at Louisiana State University. He earned his B.A. degree from Rice University in 1960 and his Ph.D. from Vanderbilt University in 1967. He was Senior Economist in the Environment Department of the World Bank, where he helped to develop policy guidelines related to sustainable development. He is closely associated with theories of a steady-state economy. He was a co-founder and associate editor of the journal, Ecological Economics. He received many awards, including Right Livelihood Award, Heineken Prize, Sophie Prize, and Blue Planet Prize. He has written several books include: Steady-state economics, For the Common Good, Beyond Growth, and Ecological Economics and the Ecology of Economics.
