John Victor Shea III was born in North Conway, New Hampshire, USA. He is an American actor, film director, producer and screenwriter. He earned a BA degree in Theatre from Bates College in Lewiston, Maine in 1970. He earned an MFA degree in Directing in 1973 from Yale School of Drama, under Dean Robert Brustein. His career began on Broadway where he starred in Yentl, subsequently winning his first major award, the 1975 Theatre World Award. In 1988, he won his first Emmy for his performance as William Stern in Baby M. His role in several films include: Hussy, Missing, Honeymoon, Coast to Coast, A New Life, Stealing Home, Small Sacrifices, Southie, The Insurgents, The Italian Key, and Northern Borders. He directed several films include: Southie (also writer) and Grey Lady (also producer and writer). His role in television include: The Nativity (TV film), Family Reunion (TV film), Kennedy (miniseries), WIOU (TV series), Forgotten Sins (TV film), Mutant X (TV series), and Agent X (TV series).
