John Vliet Lindsay was born in New York City, New York, USA. He was an American politician, lawyer and broadcaster. He was a member of the U.S. House of Representatives from New York's 17th congressional district from 1959-1965. He served as the 103rd Mayor of New York City from 1966-1973. He earned a BA degree from Yale University in 1944. He received his law degree from Yale Law School in 1948. In 1949, he began his legal career at the law firm of Webster, Sheffield, Fleischmann, Hitchcock & Chrystie. He went on to join the United States Department of Justice in 1955 as executive assistant to Attorney General Herbert Brownell. There he worked on civil liberties cases as well as the 1957 Civil Rights Act. He was a regular guest host of Good Morning America. He wrote several books include: Journey Into Politics , The city, and The Edge (novel).
