John Gregory Dunne was born in Hartford, Connecticut, USA. He was an American novelist, screenwriter, journalist, essayist and literary critic. He graduated from Princeton University in 1954. He started working as a journalist in New York City for Time magazine. He and his wife Joan Didion wrote a joint by-lined column for the Saturday Evening Post magazine for years. They also collaborated on a series of screenplays, including The Panic in Needle Park, Play It as It Lays, A Star Is Born, True Confessions, and Up Close and Personal. As a literary critic and essayist, he was a frequent contributor to The New York Review of Books. He wrote several novels include: True Confessions, Dutch Shea, Jr., The Red White and Blue, Playland, and Nothing Lost. He wrote other books include: Delano, The studio, Vegas, Quintana & Friends (essays), Harp (memoir), Crooning (essays), Monster: Living Off the Big Screen, and Regards.
