John Daniel Ehrlichman was born in Tacoma, Washington, USA. He was an American political advisor, lawyer and writer. He was counsel and Assistant to the President for Domestic Affairs under President Richard Nixon. He was a key figure in events leading to the Watergate break-in and the ensuing Watergate scandal, for which he was convicted of conspiracy, obstruction of justice, and perjury and served a year and a half in prison. He earned a BA degree in Political Science from the University of California at Los Angeles in 1948. He graduated from Stanford Law School in 1951. He joined a Seattle law firm, becoming a partner, practicing as a land-use lawyer, noted for his expertise in urban land use and zoning. He wrote several books include: The Company (novel), The whole truth, Witness to Power: The Nixon Years, and The China card (novel).
