John Crowley was born in Presque Isle, Maine, USA. He is an American author of fantasy, science fiction and mainstream fiction. He earned a BA degree in English from Indiana University in 1964. He has written several novels include: The Deep, Beasts, Engine Summer (Nominated- National Book Award for hardcover science fiction in 1980), Little, Big (Won- World Fantasy Award for best novel in 1982), Great Work of Time (Won- World Fantasy Award for best novella in 1990), The Translator, Lord Byron's Novel, and Four Freedoms. Ægypt series of novels: Aegypt, Love & Sleep, Dæmonomania, and Endless Things. He has written several short stories include: Novelty, Antiquities, and Novelties and Souvenirs. He has written several films include: No Place to Hide (short film), America and Lewis Hine (documentary film), Liberators: Fighting on Two Fronts in World War II (documentary TV movie), and The Gate of Heavenly Peace (documentary film). In 1992 he received the Award in Literature from the American Academy and Institute of Arts and Letters. He teaches creative writing at Yale University. He has also taught at the Clarion West Writers' Workshop held annually in Seattle, Washington.
