John Lester Hubbard Chafee was born in Providence, Rhode Island, USA. He was an American Republican politician. He served as the 66th Governor of Rhode Island from 1963-1969. He served as the United States Senator from Rhode Island (1976-1999). He served as the United States Secretary of the Navy and Chair of the Senate Environment Committee. He was a member of the Rhode Island State House of Representatives from 1957-1963. He also served as an officer in the United States Marine Corps. He earned a BA degree from Yale University in 1947. He earned his LLB degree from Harvard Law School in 1950.
