John Nicholas Cassavetes was born in New York City, New York, USA. He was a Greek-American actor, film director and screenwriter. He studied at Blair Academy in New Jersey, and American Academy of Dramatic Arts. He studied acting with Don Richardson, using an acting technique based on muscle memory. His role in several films include: The Night Holds Terror, Crime in the Streets, Edge of the City, Affair in Havana, Virgin Island, Rosemary's Baby, The Dirty Dozen (nominated- Academy Award for Actor in a Supporting Role), Machine Gun McCain, Husbands, Capone, Mikey and Nicky, Opening Night, Brass Target, The Incubus, and Love Streams. He directed several films include: Shadows, Too Late Blues, A Child Is Waiting, Faces (also writer, Nominated- Academy Award for Best Original Screenplay), Husbands, Minnie and Moskowitz (also writer), A Woman Under the Influence (also writer, Nominated- Academy Award for Best Director), Opening Night (also writer), Gloria (also writer), and Love Streams.
